Thank You and Good Bye

The Southern Peninsula Basketball Association would like to take the opportunity to thank all three of our 2018 BigV imports as each of them have decided to continue their careers in different directions.

Director of Coaching and Pathways as well as Senior Women’s Head Coach, Gerard Hillier commented that all three imports were outstanding across the board this year “this is probably the best year we’ve ever had in terms of how well our imports have interacted with our broader community.  We have had brilliant feedback from the schools and the parents of the development programs that the imports have been involved with” Hillier continued from a Senior Women’s perspective “in terms of Sydney and Peyton with our Senior Women’s team, well the proof lies within the results, they have been significant contributors to our Women making the Grand Final Series for the first time in State Championship”.  Gerard continued “Sydney joined our team late but has provided us length, athleticism, rebounding and competitiveness that has been invaluable for us”.  “Peyton has been the perfect fit for our young team, she has the ability to create for herself and others, she can defend multiple positions and has certainly been an important leader”.

The Head Coach of our Senior Men’s team, Lucas Allen had similar sentiments for their import, Colin Voss “Colin has been absolutely perfect for our team this year, he brought size, Basketball IQ, an unselfishness and a skill set that made every one of his team mates better”.

The Southern Peninsula Basketball Association were keen to have the imports return, however, Sydney is committed to chasing opportunities at higher levels, Peyton is undecided on her playing future and Colin has decided to start his Coaching career back in the United States.

We know that Sydney, Peyton and Colin have left a lasting impression on the Southern Peninsula Basketball community and that many people would like the opportunity to say good bye before they depart, all three will be headed home at various stages across the next week or two.  The Representative Presentation night will be the last time that Sydney, Peyton and Colin will officially represent the SPBA.

Colin loved his time in Australia and in particular at the SPBA “I had a great experience here, I really enjoyed being a part of this community and Sharks family. I will miss being around the guys the most, as a team we had great chemistry and comradery.  I’m going to China for all of September and then going back to the US to look to get my coaching career started”.

Sydney couldn’t speak highly enough of her first professional experience “Loved having the opportunity to play here because of the supportive community surrounding the program and the lovely people I got to come in contact with along the way, I’m definitely going to miss the geography here in Australia, from the beach to the rolling hills and the nice days that came with”

Peyton also couldn’t express enough how much she loved her time at the SPBA “I have loved every minute of my time here at Southern Peninsula. I am incredibly thankful to the Sharks for allowing me this opportunity. It has been such an awesome journey. The family atmosphere that surrounds this club is something special and something I will most certainly miss. A big thanks to everyone who has embraced this crazy, loud laughing, girl from Texas. I love y’all! Fins up”

The Southern Peninsula Basketball Association would like to thank all three players for their contributions this year both on and off the court and wish them all the very best of luck with their future, we cannot wait to see what they all achieve.
