Senior Sharks – 2022 Awards
Here are the MVP’s and coaches awards for our four
Southern Peninsula Sharks teams this year…
Congratulations to Finn Jones on being awarded the MVP for the ‘CrewTraka’ Youth Men. Jones was a consistent force this season with averages of 7.4 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 17 points per game on an efficient 57% from the field.
Ben Forsyth took home the coaches award with an impressive season including averages of 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Forsyth was great on the defensive end with 1.7 blocks per game.
Keely Phillips was an anchor for the Sharks this season. Phillips played 22 games and started every single match, a testament to her fitness, durability and hard work. Phillips put up 9.4 points, 4.6 Rebounds and 1.1 Steals in season 2022,
earning her MVP honours.
Casey Donner has been recognised by the coaching staff as an integral part of the ‘CVGT Eemployment’ Youth Women team for 2022 and beyond. Donner has had to work especially hard this season and her grit paid off as she became a consistent feature in the starting lineup in the second half of the season and has now been recognised again with this seasons Coaches Award.
Dareon Jones was unstoppable this season. Jones started 21 matches while racking up 35 minutes played per game, there’s nothing more to say than that he is more machine than man. Jones earned his way into the Div 1 Men All-Star Five this season while topping the scoring charts league-wide with 24.2 points per game. An outstanding season, well and truly worthy of the MVP award.
Hopkins played four games in the Sharks Youth Men team with averages of 8.3 points per game, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals. Hopkins earned his way to be called up to the Senior squad for several matches, including two starts. Massive effort and congratulations on the coaches award Ben!
Fiona Darnell has been an outstanding leader for the ‘Laneway Dromana’ Senior Women this season and has played out of her skin in the process. Darnell posted averages of 8.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Huge accomplishments this season and topped off with the MVP, well done Fiona!
Southern Pen sharpshooter Myra Wood takes home this seasons coaches award. Wood knocked down more threes than twos this season and even shot a better percentage on threes than twos. Wood also added 7.6 points, 2 assists and 1 steal per game to her impressive season statline. Huge season and well-deserved award.
CLUBPERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD
Samson Sandhu takes home Clubperson of the Year Award for season 2022. Samson is a beloved character around the Southern Peninsula Basketball Association. Sandhu gets along with everyone he interacts with and has a knack of putting a smile on your face. He doesn’t let his talents go to waste either, often finding time to teach the Southern Pen youngsters the fundamentals of the game and how to improve their skills. Thank you Samson!
