Sharks Re-Enter Youth League
The Southern Peninsula Basketball Association is thrilled to add a piece to the puzzle by nominating teams to re-enter Youth League Competition of Big V, along with our existing Senior teams.
Youth League is for 23 years old and under and is a key part of the pathways between junior basketball and senior basketball. Southern Peninsula will be nominating both a Men’s and Women’s Youth League Team in the 2021 competition.
Our Senior Men and Senior Women teams continue to compete within Big V and will continue to form part of our pathway.
SPBA General Manager, Ben White, announced this significant step forward for the Association stating “We are committed to providing basketball for all levels at the Association and this includes pathways for aspiring athletes.”
“Until now, players were having to make difficult choices as early as 15 or 16 years old to either continue playing basketball at a representative level but against mature adults in our Senior Squads, or not play representative basketball at our Association. This is an unacceptable barrier. We are now in a position to remove this barrier and strengthen our pathways, seeing some of our much loved members return to the club.” White added.
Newly appointed Director of Coaching & High Performance, James McKinnon, commented on the announcement saying “This is an exciting initiative by the club to put forward Youth League teams. It’ll give athletes and coaches a great pathway into the senior program and beyond. I look forward to helping these athletes and coaches improve and one day become a part of the BigV programs.”
Applications for Head Coaches will open tomorrow. After the appointments of the coaches are made, further steps will be announced which will form part of the squads selection process. Any athlete interested should register their interest by clicking here.
