Senior Women Sign Sydney Coleman
The Southern Peninsula Basketball Association is delighted to announce the signing of American import, Sydney Coleman.
Senior Women’s Head Coach, Gerard Hillier is full of excitement when talking about the signing of Sydney “Sydney is long, athletic and defensive minded. She is renowned as an intense competitor who has built a reputation for her ability to finish in the paint”.
Sydney is a graduate from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. For many of the Sharks family, the name Texas Christian University or TCU as they’re commonly referred to, may ring a bell. This is due to it being the College that former Sharks junior, Ella Hellessey attends.
The relationship between TCU and Sharks continues to grow, this is a massive benefit for both programs as Hillier explains “being able to build a two-way relationship with a program that is in one of College Basketball’s most powerful conferences is incredibly exciting. We have Ella Hellessey currently there playing and now we have one of their graduates headed to Australia to play for us at the Shark Tank. Hopefully this relationship can continue to grow, and this is purely the start of a long-term association”.
This relationship was a massive benefit when recruiting Sydney. The SPBA was able to talk openly and candidly with Sydney, her coaches as well as Ella, knowing full well how the Senior Women’s program operates at Southern Peninsula. Hellessey knows that the Sharks family will love Sydney “Sydney Coleman is probably the most determined player that I have ever had the pleasure to meet…Syd expects the best out of herself at all times and this high expectation drives her determination and resilience”.
Sydney herself is primed to take the next step in her career “I’m blessed and greatly humbled to have this opportunity to use the game I love as a platform. Thank you to all who’ve had faith in me. I cannot wait to land in Australia and play for the Sharks”.
Sydney will arrive in Australia in the coming weeks.
