Return to Basketball Update | 17th June 2021
The SPBA Operations Staff met today in relation to the resumption of basketball in accordance with Government and Basketball Victoria Guidelines.
The following decisions have been made for the upcoming week or until restrictions are changed.
Government restrictions in place mean that:
- There is a maximum of 50 people inside any venue at any one time (including staff).
- The minimum amount of people to run the activity are to be in the facility within the 50 person cap..
- Training groups are limited to ten.
- No spectators allowed.
Senior Domestic
- Senior Competition will from Monday 21st June for Senior Men, Senior Women and U21s.
- Maximum of 7 people per team including a scorer (no spectators – players only and a scorer). In cases where teams have 6 or more players, the sub will be required to score. Teams with 5 players can bring in 1 person to score for them.
- Team lists will be at the door at both stadiums – players will not be permitted inside unless they are registered and signed in with the QR code.
- Teams will only be allowed into the venue 5 minutes prior to their game starting.
- Teams must leave immediately after their game finishes to allow for cleaning and for the next group to come in.
Junior Domestic (U18)
- U18 games will resume from Wednesday 23rd June.
- Unfortunately, no parents/guardians/spectators will be allowed into venues.
- Each team will only permitted to have the below:
- Max. 8 players
- Max. 1 coach
- Max. 1 team manager
- Max. 1 scorer
(when U18 competitions are in progress only two courts will be used to ensure we stay under the venue cap of 50 per venue)
- Team lists will be the door at both stadiums – players will not be permitted inside unless they are registered and sign in with the QR code.
- Teams will nominate their coach, team manager and scorer so their name is at the front door so they are allowed entry. Coaches and Team Managers need to be registered with PlayHQ if they are not already.
- Teams will only be allowed in 5 minutes prior to their game starting.
- Teams must leave immediately after their game finishes to allow for cleaning and the next group to come in.
Junior Domestic (U9, U10, U12, U14, U16)
- No games this Saturday 19th June.
- For games scheduled for Saturday 26th June – a decision will be announced on games on these competitions by 5pm on Wednesday 23rd June.
Junior Representative (VJBL)
- Training will recommence from this Friday 18th June.
- No parents/guardians allowed in venues except for medical reasons. This is to ensure we remain under the venue cap.
- Groups of no more than 10 with a max of 50 people in the venue.
- Basketball Victoria have advised there will be no games this Friday 18th June. Basketball Victoria will advise Associations regarding next Friday’s games, depending on restrictions in place at that time.
Senior Representative (Big V)
- Training will recommence from this Friday 18th June.
- No parents/guardians/spectators allowed in venue except for medical reasons.
- Groups of no more than 10 with a max of 50 people in the venue.
- Basketball Victoria have advised there will be no games this weekend 19th/20th June. We have been advised games will likely resume from next weekend 26th/27th June. Spectators will be determined by any change in Government restrictions.
Programs
Aussie Hoops
- Aussie Hoops will not proceed this Friday. Participants will be advised when sessions resume.
- Due to the loss of sessions, participants in Aussie Hoops will be offered 3 free days at our Alley-oop holiday camp. Please contact community@sthpen.com.au if you would like to take advantage of this offer.
School Holiday Camps
School holiday camps are proceeding as planned. If current Government restrictions remain in place we will make adjustments to ensure camps still proceed but in groups of ten.
Small Group Sessions
Small Group Sessions that run on a Monday by SPBA will proceed as planned.
Court Use
There will be no court use outside the above stated until further advised by SPBA Operations Staff.
Canteen
Canteens at both stadiums will be not be open until restrictions ease further. This is to ensure there is no unnecessary congregation and contact of people.
