National Performance Program: Corey Hastings

SOUTHERN Peninsula Basketball Association would like to congratulate Corey Hastings on being selected to the Basketball Victoria National Performance Program. Hastings joins Ben Forsyth & Darcy Jones, two other Southern Peninsula athletes in this prestigious program.

On Hastings’ selection, Director of Coaching & High Performance, Matt Brasser said “Corey is not only an incredibly talented basketball player, but he is an even better young man. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Corey on the court and to get to know him off the court. Corey comes from a great family, who I’m sure will help to play a huge part in steering him in the right direction, over his very promising career.”

“I hope that I have played some small part in Corey’s development, but I know whatever I have given to him, he has given me back so much more in the time we have worked together. His passion, resilience and well natured manner, as well as his work ethic, professionalism and approach to the game is admired by everyone around him.”

Hastings recently returned from the U18 Australian Junior Championships as a bottom age players where he averaged 13 points per game, 2.29 rebounds per game, 1 assist per game and shooting the ball at an elite 40.48%. Topping the week off with multiple 20+ point games.

Brasser added “Corey’s grit and determination are traits rarely seen in someone so young, and it’s something that all of our juniors can see and learn from him. I assure you; you will not find a greater role model than Corey Hastings. There are big things in Corey’s future, and I can’t wait to see what he chooses to do next!”

This recent selection takes Southern Peninsula to the highest number of U18 male players in the state in the program and the highest number of male athletes from the club in the program at the one time.

Alongside Jones & Forsyth, Hastings is part of our U18 VJBL Team & Senior Men’s Program in which all three have significant playing contributions.
