AFTER a stellar performance at the Australian Junior Championships, Southern Peninsula’s Darcy Jones has gained selection to the National Performance Camp from 29 September to 2 October at the Centre of Excellence in Canberra.
Basketball Australia announced the 60 athletes who have been identified to attend based on their performances at the recently Australian Under-18 Junior Championships held in Wyndham, as well as respective state and territory high performance programs.
Selected athletes will attend the four-day camp and take part in a series of on-court sessions, scrimmages and education sessions and engaging with some of the leading coaches in the country.
On the selection, SPBA Director of Coaching & High Performance, Matt Brasser said “Darcy is a perfect example of hard work and dedication paying off. Darcy is an incredible role model to everyone around him. He inspires his team mates to work harder and constantly pushes the people around him to be better.”
“Darcy is a great young man, and it has been a pleasure to get to know him and his family so far. Darcy is professionalism personified, and his desire to succeed is unquestionable. He is a fiery competitor, a trait that I not only greatly admire about him, but one that will undoubtedly help throughout his promising career.
I would encourage all of our juniors to watch and learn from Darcy’s work ethic and commitment to the game of basketball.
I look forward to everything that is coming Darcy’s way, and cannot wait to see where his career will take him!” Brasser added.
The National Performance Camp, formerly known as Australian Development Camp, has been a feature of the Australian basketball pathway for some 30 years and has had numerous NBA and WNBA athletes attend, including Lauren Jackson, Rebecca Allen, Elizabeth Cambage, Patty Mills, Aron Baynes and Joe Ingles.
