Future Sharks Program

The Southern Peninsula Basketball Association is pleased to announce that we will be continuing with the Future Sharks Program in 2021 and the trial process will take place at the same time as the U12 VJBL Tryouts.
The essence of the program will be to introduce “double bottom age” under 12 players to playing representative Basketball, without adding too much stress or workload in the early years.  Below is a summary of how the program will operate;
    1. There will be weekly hour long training sessions, as opposed to two weekly 90 minute sessions which our VJBL teams have.
    2. Numbers permitting, there will be at least one team in the boys and one team in the girls.
    3. The teams will compete in approximately four tournaments throughout the year, as opposed to the weekly Friday night games our VJBL teams have.
This program will act as a pathway into our VJBL (Victorian Junior Basketball League), a state league competition that competes on Friday nights.  We envisage that the Future Sharks Program will greatly benefit the development and growth of those who participate through;
    • Building their skill sets
    • Increasing their knowledge of how to play Basketball
    • Adding experience in competing at a higher level
    • Introducing them to quality coaching on a regular basis

This program lays the foundations for our Junior Representative program.  We strongly believe that this is the very best way to set the individuals and the Association up for long term and sustainable success.
