Welcome to the Future of Community Sports on the Mornington Peninsula
Vision
Our vision is to establish the Southern Peninsula Community Indoor Sport & Wellbeing Hub as the premier destination for indoor sports in the region. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as the administrative and community sporting hub, catering to a wide range of sports including basketball, netball, badminton, table tennis, and volleyball. With a capacity to seat up to 2,000 students, staff, and community members, the facility is designed to encourage participation from everyone, regardless of ability.
Why It Matters
The Southern Peninsula currently faces a critical shortage of indoor sports facilities that are accessible, inclusive, and capable of meeting the high demand from our community. Our already limited indoor sport facilities are already close to 100% capacity most days with juniors playing as late as 9:40pm.
Despite a significant increase in sports participation, especially among juniors and females, our existing infrastructure has not kept pace. Many of our facilities are outdated, non-compliant with accessibility standards, and unable to support the diverse range of sports that our community is eager to engage in. This shortage not only limits participation opportunities but also hampers the potential for hosting large-scale events that have substantial economic and social benefits for the region.
The Southern Peninsula Community Indoor Sport & Wellbeing Hub is our answer to this pressing need, promising to deliver a modern, versatile space that will support our growing community, enhance sporting excellence, and promote wellbeing for all ages and abilities. By addressing this shortage head-on, we aim to create a vibrant hub of activity that embodies our commitment to health, inclusivity, and community spirit.
The Southern Peninsula Basketball Association (SPBA), in partnership with local schools, recognizes the pressing need for enhanced indoor sports facilities. Our project aims to address the lack of all-weather, safe, and inclusive venues that can support the growing demand for indoor sports and community activities. By developing this hub, we’re not just building courts; we’re fostering a healthier, more connected, and active community.
