CIVIL TRAINING AUSTRALIA SIGNS NEW SPONSORSHIP OF INDIGENOUS SOUTHERN PENINSULA BASKETBALL PROGRAMS

Indigenous sport in the Southern Peninsula area of Melbourne has received a significant boost with the announcement that registered training organisation Civil Training Australia (CTA) has signed on to become a major sponsor of Indigenous basketball programs in the region.

CTA have agreed to become the Naming Rights Sponsor for all Indigenous Initiatives run on the Southern Peninsula for the next two years led by Southern Peninsula Basketball Association.  The sponsorship will also support programs run across the Peninsula in conjunction with the Peninsula Basketball group, comprising of the five major community basketball associations in the region, including Westernport Basketball Association, Mornington Basketball Association, Chelsea Basketball Association and Frankston Basketball Association.

CTA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Damian Paul, said the agreement was an important part of his organisation’s support of worthwhile community programs.

“Civil Training Australia’s main focus as a registered training organisation is about creating opportunities for people,” said Mr Paul.  “Since we opened in 2019, we have successfully trained hundreds of people through our industry-recognised courses for the construction, traffic management and warehousing sectors, helping them improve their employability and creating new opportunities for them.  We see this new sponsorship as the natural evolution of our mission, creating new opportunities and pathways for the Indigenous community across the Southern Peninsula region of Melbourne.”

Mr Ben White, Southern Peninsula Basketball Association’s General Manager, said the support of CTA would allow the association and others in the region to achieve their goal of building inclusion in the region

“We have been working for some time with all the other basketball associations on the Peninsula to team up and make the sport of basketball even more inclusive than it already is.” Mr. White said.  “The invaluable financial support that Civil Training Australia is offering us over the next two years will help our alliance of associations to extend significantly our Indigenous programs.”

“CTA’s sponsorship will strengthen our existing pathways as well as allowing us to create new ones that will offer Indigenous people in our community better opportunities to participate in basketball for fun and fitness.”
