Coach Pathway: Darcy Thornton
In our next look at pathways our members have taken we caught up with Darcy Thornton one of our up and coming coaches!
Most memorable coaching experience?
“It’s hard to narrow down or pinpoint a certain time that is most memorable in my coaching career so far. I’ve had so many memorable moments, however winning the gold medal game with the U14 Bushrangers at the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup (ACJBC) is one of the most memorable. However the people I have met and the networks through coaching in the Country Victoria program and Southern Peninsula is something I will treasure for a lifetime.”
Why do you coach?
“I think my passion for coaching came from me wanting to give back and help athletes progress in the programs I was part of as an athlete. Helping them develop into not only better athletes but better people. Through my experiences through Country Victoria Regional Academy and Jamboree’s I’ve been able to watch athletes develop and that is the most rewarding part for me as a coach.
I think that my coaching wouldn’t have excelled so fast without mentors, I think Ben White has been the best person who has helped me excel my coaching career through these pathways. I must also thank all the coaches who have provided me with valuable feedback and advice to better myself. One coach in particular I would like to thank is Bill Jeffs, a coach who coached me during my time as an athlete of the Regional Academy has provided me with valuable feedback and many life lessons that I will continually value as I continue to coach.”
