Kelly Read Leading The Way

Southern Peninsula Basketball Association (SPBA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kelly Read to our U12.1 Girls Team for the 2021 Junior Sharks team.

SPBA General Manager, Ben White recently commented saying “This is the first time in at least the last four years we have had a female in a permanent head coaching role for any 1st team. We are thrilled to be able to have Kelly in this position for this upcoming season. Kelly works considerably to grow the sport and to upskill her knowledge and thoroughly deserves this appointment. Working with Kelly, we hope we can continue to encourage and inspire other females and junior rep players to step up and get involved at a representative coaching level.”

“In the past, through the coaching pathway we have had a limited number of female coaches in any team. This year we will have more females part of our coaching staff than we have in at least the last five years. We really look forward to working with all coaches to build the culture and promote female participation in coaching through our whole association. Joining Kelly is an increasing number of other female coaches across all teams and roles which will be announced in due course.” White discussed.
