Victorian Liberals & Nationals Commit To Fund Expansion
Today, the Victorian Liberals & Nationals announced that if they are elected to government, they will fund 100% of the expansion and upgrade of the Dromana College Sporting Complex!
The $7.8 million dollar promise will see the existing 3 courts upgraded plus an additional 3 courts. Bringing the total to 6 indoor sporting and event spaces, including a 2,000-person show court which will be of great social and economic benefit to the region.
Working collectively with Dromana College and local sports, Southern Peninsula Basketball Association have been working extremely hard to bring this project to life.
Southern Peninsula Basketball, Dromana College and community groups in the region under a Liberal & National State Government, are set to benefit from the upgrade, which will be available to the whole community and help ease the court shortage the Mornington Peninsula is facing.
Southern Peninsula Basketball Association General Manager, Ben White, said the election funding announcement is a long needed boost to the region’s social and economic identity.
“We are thrilled with the announcement from Matthew Guy and his team. Our Association has been working on this project for a number of years with the rapid growth in our area creating an increased demand for indoor physical activity facilities.” White said.
“Alongside encouraging a wide range of indoor wellbeing activities for our community, this facility will become the premier sporting facility in the region, attracting further large events similar to our Annual Junior Tournament, which already brings in over $2 million into our local economy over the space of two days”.
The facility will provide an all-weather, safe and cohesive facility that encourages additional sports, such as netball, badminton, table tennis and volleyball to name a few.
One of the many social benefits of this expansion is the engagement of the wider community and the ability to cater for a larger range of activities, such as all abilities sports, walking basketball for our senior citizens and further community outreach, which is currently lacking in the area.
Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy said this important upgrade is part of the Liberals and Nationals plan to recover and rebuild.
“A Government I lead will deliver the facilities that local communities need to move forward, recover and rebuild.”
“After two years of lost learning and social development, upgrades like these will help students and the broader community get back on track.”
Liberal Candidate for Nepean, Sam Groth said the Liberals and Nationals planned upgrade was a win for across the board for Dromana and Peninsula communities.
“Schools can be more than 9-3 and our plan will unlock a state-of-the-art facility to be enjoyed by sporting and community organisations from across the Peninsula.”
In the lead up to the State and Federal elections and the continuing work on this project, Ben White spoke to the ongoing advocacy of the expansion to meet the needs of the community.
“It is pleasing that the Victorian Liberals & Nationals have seen the need for facilities and are willing to take action. We are continuing to work with the Victorian Labour Party, local and federal governments on this vital community complex to bring it to life.”
The Southern Peninsula community look keenly towards the future with the Victorian Liberals & Nationals commitment to bring the project to fruition if elected to government.
