Tournament Update | 3rd November 2021

We are pleased to be proceeding full steam ahead for the Southern Peninsula Tournament on the 4th and 5th December. In what will be a celebration of Victoria’s return to basketball, we cannot wait to welcome teams back on court.

Here is some of the latest information in preparation for the tournament!

Clustered Games & Venue Limits

We are in regular communication with the Victorian Government Department of Public Events and Department of Health to run the tournament as safe as possible.

Our event will run under stricter limits than even standard Friday nights, meaning you are very safe.

Our event will run most venues under the Tier 3 framework set out by the Victorian Government which means that there cannot be more than 1,000 people enter a venue across a day.

Furthermore, where possible, we are clustering games which will mean certain age groups will play in the first half of the day and certain age groups will play in the second half of the day. This will limit unnecessary crossover of people meaning under this arrangement, you will not come into contact with more than 500 people, much like going to the supermarket.
The clustered games will also mean the tournament does not take up your whole day as we know how everyone wants to take advantage of the freedom we have not had for so long!

Vaccinations

Our vaccination requirements will replicate those of the VJBL. As this becomes clearer over the coming weeks we will ensure we keep you informed!

Catering for Player Workloads

As mentioned in previous communications, we will still be offering the Championship division which attracts many of the top VC teams from across the state.

With all divisions, including Championship, this year we will be operating off 50 minute time slots (the usual timing rules for divisional games). This is to ensure players load is taken into account as we adjust back into playing.

We do not see this as a major disadvantage as this aligns with the first phase of VJBL timing rules. Shots clocks will still be in operation as per our rules on our website.

Entries

Until 9am on Monday 15th of November, teams will be able to register without paying at the time of registration. This is to allow teams and coaches to register and secure their spot and paying closer to the entries close date.

If clubs are registering teams in bulk, they are able to do this via their PlayHQ portal and be invoiced.

This year to ensure we remain as COVID-Safe as possible we have a reduced capacity. We encourage teams to register as soon as possible in order to not miss out.

Entries close on the 24th of November, 2021.

Referees

We are still seeking referees for the tournament. If you are interested or know of someone who might be, please visit the below link!

If you are also a player, coach or parent, we can roster around your tournament games too!

We will continue to distribute information over the coming weeks as Associations hold their tryouts.
