Association Update – 18th August 2021

Dear Members,
Following the announced extension of restrictions earlier this week from the Victorian Government, all operations remain suspended until 11:59pm Thursday 2nd September.
We would like to provide the below update on our competitions and programs.
Domestic Competition
Current Season
We are currently working with clubs to determine the return to play for the remainder of the Winter Domestic Season, particularly in relation to finals.
Next Season
The following domestic season is still scheduled to begin on Monday 20th September for the Senior Competition and Saturday 2nd October for the Junior Competition.
Junior Representative Teams (VJBL)
Current Season
Basketball Victoria is currently assessing all options for the completion of the 2021 VJBL season and we should be made aware of the outcome in the coming days.
As soon as we receive communication from the league we will communicate this on to our teams.
Next Season
All tryouts remain scheduled as normal. For more information, CLICK HERE.
Presentation Night
At this point, the Junior Representative Presentation Night is continuing as planned. As we near closer to the expected end of restrictions, we will be in communication with all teams to keep everyone updated.
Senior Representative Teams (Big V)
Current Season
Big V have today notified with the restrictions in place until at least the 2nd of September 2021, all remaining season rounds have been cancelled.
Due to the loss of games due to past lockdowns, the league had also reduced all finals series to top four. With this change in finals structure means no Southern Peninsula teams have qualified for finals.
Unfortunately not being able to play the remaining games means that for all our Big V teams, the season has been cut short.
We congratulate all teams on a challenging but successful season coming back from the 2020 year off. We look forward to celebrating with everyone at the Senior Presentation night on the 18th of September 2021.
Registration Fees
Domestic
The domestic registration fees paid at the start of the season relate to fees incurred directly by the Association in the early stages of the season in relation to registrations, fixturing and compliance. Whereas the weekly game fees are to cover the week to weak costs of games.
As no game fees have been paid in advance, there is no refund or credit in this situation.
Representative
The junior representative fees paid at the start of the season relate to fees incurred directly by the Association in the early stages of the year, including the fees paid to Basketball Victoria which administrates the league. Whereas the weekly game fees are to cover the week to week costs of games and trainings.
At this point there is no refund on the registration fee as it has been incurred prior to the season beginning. If any refund is provided by Basketball Victoria, we will then re-evaluate to see if any refund or credit is possible.
This has proven to be yet another challenging year for all our members and the greater community. While 2020 was filled with long continuous lockdowns, 2021 bouncing in and out of lockdowns proves to be no easier.
We urge everyone to work together to maintain a positive outlook, knowing that we are well on the way to returning to a more stable and enjoyable future.
We thank everyone for their patience and support during this time and we look forward to returning to basketball very soon.
Kind regards,
Ben White
General Manager
