Junior Sharks Head Coaches Announced for 2022/23
Thank you to all those who submitted an expression of interest to coach one of our VJBL teams for the upcoming season.
Led by Head of Basketball, Matt Brasser, the Southern Peninsula Sharks have selected an outstanding coaching group to lead the VJBL program into the future with athlete development at the heart of the selection process.
“We have worked extensively over the last few months to secure a great line up of coaches for our Junior Program,” Head of Basketball, Matt Brasser said.
“There has been significant time and energy put into restructuring our Junior Program, to best develop our players and coaches over the next few seasons,” he said.
“VJBL coaches work tirelessly throughout the season, and we cannot thank them enough for their contributions to our club. Without these volunteer coaches, there would be no Friday night basketball. We are heavily focusing on securing coaches that are willing to work to develop all the athletes within our program, by working in collaboration with each other, the age group coaches, and the Director of Coaching. We are absolutely thrilled to have these coaches working within our association for the next 12 months and we look forward to seeing what each one brings to the table.”

Lauren Eagles
Lauren is a club champion who has achieved great things as both a player and a coach in her career here at SPBA. We are ecstatic to have Lauren back involved in our club and wish her the best for the upcoming season!
Under 12 Girls
David Stark
Starky is another club legend that we are excited to have back involved in our program.
He was an assistant coach to the Division 1 Men’s team last season and played a
significant role in their success. Starky will no doubt have the girls playing some
great basketball next season.

Darcy Thornton
We are thrilled to have Darcy continue his coaching career with us for the 2023 VJBL season. Darcy was a phenomenal coach all last season and had the Under 12 boys playing some incredible basketball. We are excited to see the development of the Under 14 Boys under Darcy this season.

Kelly Read
We cannot thank Kelly Read enough for her contributions to our association, in particular within the girls program over the last few years. It is great to see her coaching again this year, and she will undoubtedly have another successful season in 2023.

Jade Odom
Jade is coming off a very strong season with the Under 18.2 girls where she played a significant role in turning their year around and making a run into the playoffs. We are excited to see some of our most promising female athletes in years develop under the helm of Jade and look forward to seeing what she is capable of this season.
Under 18 Boys
Ron Ryer
Ronnie continues his SPBA legacy for another year, stepping up to take the 18.1 Boys. Many people know and love Ronnie, and we are excited to see him energetically yelling from the sidelines for another year.
Under 18 Girls
Adam Goddard
Adam has been one of our most consistent coaches over the past few seasons. He has recently stepped up and taken on more responsibility within our Senior program and we are thrilled that he will play a significant role in bridging the gap between our Senior and Junior programs.
The remaining age group coaches will be announced after tryouts.
